Prof Richard Kingston

Professor of Urban Planning and GISc

Richard is Professor of Urban Planning and Geographical Information Science (GISc) in the School of Environment Education and Development, Head of the Department of Planning and Environmental Management and Deputy Director of the Urban Institute’s SPA lab.

Richard's research focuses on the role of technology and spatial data analysis in supporting all forms of the planning and development process. He researches and develops participatory decision support solutions with the aim of enhancing stakeholder involvement and participation in spatial decision making. His research brings together three areas of work: Smart Cities, Public Participation GIS, and Planning Support Systems.
