Google's Tensorflow: Not Just for Deep Learning?
Date: 21st February 2017
Speaker: Dr James Hensman (Lancaster University)
More than 65 attendees from across the University came along to the seminar entitled 'Google's TensorFlow: not just for Deep Learning?' by the University of Lancaster's Dr James Hensman.
In this talk, James introduced Google's TensorFlow framework, and described how it can be used to build statistical models beyond neural networks. By way of example, he discussed about GPflow, a Gaussian process framework that uses TensorFlow for computation. James described how his research has enabled the computation of Gaussian processes in a distributed manner, and how GPflow has enabled a tenfold speed-up by moving some computations to the GPU.
