Modelling Human Behaviour

Human Behaviour Analytics explores how informatics can contribute to understanding, modelling, predicting and influencing human behaviour, including the study of artificial cognitive systems, and human factors influencing interactions with technology. This is a broad field, with important implications in domains as diverse as healthcare and business.

Human computer systems

The Human Computer Systems Group focuses on understanding how users interact and behave in relation to complex technology systems and how these systems, through their design, technology and infrastructure, enables users to interact with them.

HCS is involved in the experimentation of 3D human body tracking, behaviour modelling’ human-robot and human-computer interaction, Computer vision and image processing (particularly with medical applications), Application of VR/AR, especially for medical or educational purposes, accessibility technology, visual attention, and Web technology and mobile systems. We believe that by understanding user behaviour and interaction we are able to enhance our understanding of all users operating in technology dense environments.

The HCS Group is made up of a variety of academics, researchers and students, all of which have differing skills and research interests, but all of whom are interested in human interaction in real and virtual worlds. In order to support the work conducted within the Group, a number of facilities, such as a User Lab and library are provided. Furthermore, dissemination of research is achieved through community involvement, including W3C Working Group Membership and conference organisation committees.
